Module 11
Team Dynamics
Closed-loop communication, clear leadership, and role assignment — frequently overlooked but heavily tested.
Core Team Principles
- Closed-loop communication
- Clear leadership
- Role assignment
- Speaking up immediately
- Mutual respect
- Knowing one's scope of practice
Closed-Loop Communication Example
Correct — Closed Loop
"I'll administer 1 mg atropine IV push."
Incorrect — Open Loop
"Okay."
Closed-loop communication requires the receiver to repeat the order back, confirm the dose and medication, and report when the action is complete. A simple "okay" creates dangerous ambiguity.
Clinical Pearl
Poor communication kills more patients than knowledge gaps — practice closed-loop communication until it's automatic.
